Review: Green Bar Summer Terrace at Hotel Café Royal
Hotel Café Royal has been serving London since 1865, and it is undoubtedly one of our favourite spots in the West End. Its well renowned and hugely popular Green Bar has unveiled their new Summer Terrace in partnership with Veuve Clicquot just in time for Summer. As soon as we heard the news, we had no hesitation in popping over to see what it was all about! Located just off from the hustle and bustle of Regent Street, the terrace is a truly elegant retreat right in the heart of London.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a waiter and taken to our table. We were excited to taste a number of their summer cocktails incorporated with Veuve Clicquot Champagne. A number of our favourites (albeit we loved them all!) were the ‘Sassy Dame’, the ‘Agadoo Déjà vu’ and ‘The Tree of Life’. The Sassy Dame is a low alcohol cocktail made up of Sassy rose cidre, St Germain, rose liqueur and grapefruit bitters. It tasted refreshing and delicious, perfect for the hot weather. The low alcohol content makes this the perfect drink for anyone who fancies a little pick-me-up.
The Agadoo Déjà vu tasted the strongest of the three. It is made up of Belvedere vodka, bergamot liqueur, Coco Lopez, lime juice, egg white and of course Veuve Clicquot. It was simply divine and it looked the part too. Finished with a flower and a touch of pink, it won our award for the most instagrammable cocktail!
Finally, we moved onto trying ‘The Tree of Life’. For all the gin lovers out there, you’ll LOVE this one. Made up of Hayman’s gin, baobab and passion fruit cordial, homemade grenadine, lime juice and Veuve Clicquot, it’s the perfect Summer drink with a bit of a punch to it.
To accompany our cocktails, we tasted a number of the light dishes and sushi creations. We were very impressed by all of the food on the menu and the waiters were so helpful in deciding which dishes we would love. They had a great knowledge of every dish and every flavour. Having never tasted hot crispy maki before, we absolutely loved the Maguro spicy tuna rolls, they were little rolls of heaven! Another of our favourites was the Takosu, these are Japanese style tacos filled with king crab, spicy miso, lime and coriander. The Takosu were light and refreshing and really complimented the drinks we were enjoying. Our favourite of the sushi rolls was the Crispy Lobster Roll. These were made up of lobster, celery, spring onion, yuzu tartar, old bay and tobiko. They were sublime.
Whether you’re looking for a quick tipple after work or you’re celebrating a special occasion, the Green Bar Summer Terrace really is the ultimate destination. Sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere outside in the sunshine this Summer. You will not regret paying a visit. To top it all off, all Regent Street Privilege Club members can enjoy 20% off both drinks and yummy food anytime!
